Nigoshide: the purest white form of the Kakiemon porcelain

Nigoshide is a soft and heart-warming opal form of Kakiemon. It is believed that its technique was discovered in 1670 and that it is the form that is in the best harmony with the Kakiemon red designs. It was appointed as an Important Intangible Cultural Heritage in 1971 and all the generations of Kakiemon have been preserving its technique very strictly since then.

History of the Kakiemon style pocelain

The Arita-ware enamels porcelain became famous internationally around 1659 when we began exporting to Europe mostly. The Kakiemon style porcelain were by far the most appreciated works. It is said that the European royalty and aristocracy was so moved by their splendor that they would compete again each other to decorate their castles and mansions with the best pieces.
