Our Commitment to Quality
A great choice between many unique vessels
We have been working at the foot of Higashi-yama in Kyoto, just next to Sennyuji temple for over 70 years. We have a large variety of items, from the traditional-style Kiyomizu-ware first created right in front of the Sennyuji temple by Ninsei NONOMURA and Kenzan OGATA to modern Kyoto vessels.
History of pottery around the Sennyuji temple
In the Middle Ages, Hideyoshi TOYOTOMI ordered the ateliers around the Sennyuji temple to make tiles to help the construction of the Great Buddha. This is how the area around the Sennyuji temple began its special relationship with pottery that would create many famous artists and ateliers. It is now known as the "Kiyomizu-ware complex".
The artisan, Shunji MORI
When I was younger, I participated in many exhibits as a potter. Now I have an atelier in the "Kiyomizu-ware complex" and am the chief director of the Kyoto ateliers union. I keep on creating original pottery inspired by my best works selected in exhibits and traditional Kiyomizu-ware.
